Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell (born in New York City) is an American TV reporter, journalist and anchor of NBC News based at Washington D.C. Mitchell holds a bachelor's degree in English language and culture from University of Pennsylvania. In 1967 Mitchell began her career as a reporter with KYW Radio and TV in Philadelphia. 1976 Mitchell became a reporter for WDVM-TV Washington DC, a CBS-affiliated station (then WTOP). In the following two years, she was hired by NBC News as a Washington reporter. In 1981, she began covering at the White House, and in 1988 was named chief congressional correspondent. Then, in 1992 she was appointed chief White House Correspondent and in 1994 chief foreign affairs reporter for NBC News. Mitchell was the host and panelist for the TV news program Meet the Press. She participated as a member of the panel during 1988 presidential debates between George Bush, and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell won the Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism in 2005 at the John F. Kennedy School of Government. The Radio-Television News Directors Association awarded Mitchell Leonard Zeidenberg Award in 2004 for her work in protecting First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell covered in the White House first for NBC News between 1981 and 1988 during Ronald Reagan's two terms as president. She covered many notable stories such as weapons control, the budget tax as well as the Iran Contra scandal. Mitchell also went to many summits with the help of the President Reagan with Mikhail Gorbachev.
